  17. I don't know if anybody cares any more, and if nobody does it's one less
  18. thing for me to worry about, but...  Data General, when it still lived,
  19. was kind enough to donate an MV2500 to the Kermit Project, and I've used
  20. it to build each new release of C-Kermit and make the AOS/VS binary
  21. available:

  25. For the past couple years, the MV's disk has been deteriorating.  At first
  26. this only affected the Kermit builds -- i/o errors while writing object
  27. files, etc (which I could recover by renaming the file that had the bad
  28. spot and recompiling).  But now I can't boot the OS any more.

  30. Well, I know beans about AOS/VS; the DG people set it up for me and I just
  31. log in to it, run the build process, test the result, and transfer the
  32. binary out.  The DG people have the startup script doing all kinds of fancy
  33. stuff, like starting INFOS and CEO.  I'm not sure what INFOS is, but I know
  34. I don't need CEO (The Original Microsoft Office :-) running, and that's where
  35. the trouble seems to be:

  42. I assume it's hitting bad spots on the disk while loading CEO.

  44. At this point it offers to write a dump so I can send a Software Trouble
  45. Report to DG :-)  Then it runs Emergency Shutdown and prints the SCP-CLI>
  46. prompt, which offers no help.  The only command that seems to work here
  47. is "boot" which only repeats the above sequence.

  49. I would like to be able to bring the system up without CEO, but for that
  50. I'd need to edit the startup script (if I knew how to find it), and I can't
  51. do that unless the system is up.  Is there a trick to this?

  53. Alternatively, if somebody has an AOS/VS-II system with TCP/IP that I can
  54. have Telnet and FTP access to, I can move the builds to there.  (Or maybe
  55. I already had the last operational AOS/VS system!)

  57. Otherwise, AOS/VS Kermit remains frozen at 7.0 in the Kermit Project
  58. virtual software museum :-)
